I thought this piece would follow the same process as any other smoke artwork. After all, I’ve done leopards before. But smoke doesn’t care what you think you know. It moves on its own terms, reacting to every breath, every flicker of air, every hesitation in my hand. 

Unlike charcoal, where you can plan your strokes, smoke decides for you. No two pieces ever follow the same path… each one insists on becoming something new. Sometimes the stains are large, other times they struggle to leave a mark. This is especially challenging when adding shadows and depth. 

I fought for the textures in this leopard and for the sense of movement in the dust beneath him. This piece took far longer than I expected. I often had to move away for a few minutes so I could look at it with fresh eyes. Just like the real animal, it demanded patience. Determination. Respect. 

A leopard is a shy yet powerful cat. Most artworks and photographs portray its beauty or its strength. I wanted to capture something deeper: the quiet awareness that defines him. He is strong when he needs to be and carries himself with grace, yet there’s a nervous vigilance that never quite leaves him. He knows he is formidable, but he also knows his limits. Against a lion or a full-grown hyena, caution becomes his greatest weapon. 

Whenever he moves on the ground, he does so carefully, measuring each step. This artwork captures that fleeting uncertainty – the tension between confidence and caution. His body turns mid-step, eyes fixed on something unseen, scanning the air for danger or opportunity. There’s determination in his stride, but also humility. A quiet understanding that survival depends not only on strength, but on awareness. 

There’s a power in moments like this… when the leopard turns, eyes focused beyond the frame, and the world seems to hold its breath.
