In January 2024, Vulpro, a South African vulture sanctuary, successfully relocated 160 vultures to a new breeding facility in the Eastern Cape. This monumental project symbolizes hope for Africa’s endangered vultures, with a focus on building a sustainable future for species like the Cape Vulture, of which only an estimated 9,000 to 12,000 remain in the wild.

Inspired by this incredible conservation effort, my artwork Venture captures the resilience of a mother vulture and her chick, marking the beginning of a new chapter for these birds. The piece is a tribute to their strength and the ongoing fight to protect endangered vultures from extinction.

I was honored to have Venture selected as a finalist in the 2024 DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year competition. This exhibition annually brings together artists globally, using art as a powerful platform to support conservation efforts. Being a finalist allowed me to contribute to the vital conversation around protecting wildlife, particularly endangered vultures, while celebrating the work of Vulpro in securing their future.
